The series of works combined the results of a study on luminescent, magnetic, catalytic, and electrocatalytic properties of coordination compounds of 3d and 4f metals and nanoparticles of oxides and sulfides of 3d elements. Based on the analysis of the data, we revealed the laws of impact of the chemical, molecular, and crystal structure on the excitation energy transfer, the transfer of exchange interactions in the studied systems, and their catalytic activity in a number of important reactions, namely, olefin epoxidation, hydrogen generation, and electrochemical reduction of halogenoalkanes. For the first time the manifestation of the sieve effect in electrochemical reactions was found. A method for obtaining uniform nanoparticles of oxides and sulfides of 3d metals by thermal decomposition of coordination compounds was developed. Obtained results are important for the creation of new-generation luminescent and magnetic materials, and catalysts.
